Led by Shura Lipovsky—artistic director, singer, and composer of new Yiddish songs—alongside a distinguished team of international colleagues, Zalmen Mlotek & Polina Shepherd this course offers singers of all levels a rare opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich tradition of Yiddish song.

Mornings are dedicated to music theory, repertoire, and the cultural roots of Yiddish song, with a focus on modes and melodies. Afternoons feature additional repertoire study, masterclasses, and a Yiddish choir. In just one week, you will gain remarkable insight into and experience with this vibrant musical form.

This is the UK’s only full-week residential Yiddish song course, bringing together a diverse and welcoming community of participants from all backgrounds and ages.

Participants will work with leading educators and performers from the UK, Europe, and the USA. Whether you’re new to Yiddish or an experienced singer, the programme offers a broad and enriching experience both during the day and in evening events.

The course is held at SOAS University of London, a centre for ethnomusicology and world cultures, located at the Russell Square campus in the heart of London—an ideal setting to engage with the music and explore one of Europe’s great cities.
