Introducing the JMI Community Orchestra (JCO) – a vibrant new ensemble for adult musicians (18+) passionate about Jewish musical traditions and cross-cultural creativity.
Instruments:
Orchestral string, woodwind and brass musicians from any genre or background.
Entry Requirements:
Ages: 18+
Level: Grade 5+ with good sight reading ability
What is it?
A monthly rehearsal-based programme exploring Maqam, Middle Eastern Jewish classical repertoire, klezmer, and folk traditions, led by internationally acclaimed cellist and Musical Director Shirley Smart.
Who is it for?
Players returning to their instruments, committed amateur musicians, university-age players, and dedicated hobbyists are all warmly invited to take part. Ideal for those seeking community music-making and cultural enrichment.
The repertoire will span Jewish, world and classical traditions, and will include new commissions.
