AVISHAI COHEN & REJOICER FEAT. JIMI PRASAD ORCHESTRA at Stone Nest, London

The Jewish Music Institute was proud to present the UK premiere of Avishai Cohen & Rejoicer feat. the Jimi Prasad Orchestra at Stone Nest, London.

The evening opened with a moving speech by our Chair, Robert Rinder MBE, celebrating the power of music to bring people together across cultures, followed by a mesmerising performance by internationally acclaimed kora virtuoso Kadialy Kouyate.

The UK premiere of Avishai Cohen & Rejoicer feat. the Jimi Prasad Orchestra then transformed Stone Nest into an immersive musical landscape, where jazz, orchestral writing, improvisation and electronic sound came together in a unique performance experienced in the round.

Presented as part of JMI’s commitment to commissioning, supporting and presenting exceptional new artistic work, the concert brought together artists, audiences and partners for a memorable celebration of contemporary Jewish musical creativity.

The Jewish Music Institute (JMI) is seeking an experienced Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees. As a leading organisation dedicated to the preservation, promotion and development of Jewish music, we play a vital role in celebrating and sharing Jewish musical heritage and culture.

3. Trustees – Jewish Music Institute (JMI) *Voluntary Position*

As a Trustee, you will contribute to the strategic direction and governance of JMI, ensuring the charity’s long-term success, sustainability, and growth. Trustees play a key role in advising and guiding the organisation, supporting its leadership, and helping JMI deliver its mission to preserve and promote Jewish music traditions.

Call for volunteers: whether you are interested in broadcast journalism, field recordings and research, editing, production and marketing, this opportunity will offer you the chance to gain experience in these areas, learn more about Jewish Music and make some good contacts.

We are seeking two enthusiastic and motivated volunteers to help us develop and promote the show on a weekly basis.

After 12 years of service to JMI we are sad to announce Yvonne Glass will be leaving the JMI Team this week. Yvonne has been invited to act as a consultant over the coming years so this won’t be the last you see of her. We welcome our new Events Manager Gil Karpas and look forward to where we take Jewish Music.

A note from Yvonne:

“I consider myself really fortunate to have spent the last 12 years working for the Jewish Music Institute. I have had the chance to work with amazingly talented musicians, to organise concerts in such venues as the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Union Chapel, Bevis Marks Synagogue and the greatly missed The Spitz and to help arrange conferences, such as the highly acclaimed academic conference Art Musics of Israel at University College, London in March 2011. Of course the bulk of my work has consisted of organising JMI summer schools such as Klezfest and Ot Azoy! / Tumbala where I have had the joy of meeting so many interesting and diverse people, many of whom I hope to stay in touch with.
