JMI Youth Big Band—Autumn Term

Led by acclaimed band leader Sam Eastmond, JMI is offering an exciting opportunity for young musicians to explore jazz, improvisation, and Jewish musical heritage in a vibrant ensemble setting.
Autumn Term includes:
- regular monthly rehearsals (October, November, December)
- joint workshop with NYJO Under 18s ensemble (October)
- performance at the EFG London Jazz Festival (November)
- collaboration with special guest artist – cellist & composer Shirley Smart
Open to young musicians aged 11–19 who are passionate about jazz and ensemble playing. We welcome applications from players with a good level of instrumental and sight reading ability and a willingness to learn, collaborate and improvise.
Each application is considered individually, taking into account current ensemble needs and potential for growth – so if you’re enthusiastic and ready to get involved, we’d love to hear from you!
We are offering a free taster session on Sunday 19 October at Vortex Jazz Club for anyone who wants to come and try out.
