HMD 2025: For A Better Future

Mayor of London and London Assembly Holocaust Memorial Day Ceremony 2025, on Monday 20 January.
JMI – Jewish Music Institute are honoured to partnering with The Mayor Of London, The Holocaust Memorial Day Trust and the Holocaust Educational Trust for this year’s memorial ceremony.
The theme for 2025 is ‘For a Better Future’, chosen by the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust (HMDT).
The service will begin promptly at 11am, and will commemorate victims of the Holocaust, and more recent genocides, providing a time of reflection. We very much hope you will be able to join us in this act of commemoration, and in our unified commitment to stand against racism, persecution, and discrimination.
Music for the ceremony will be provided by She’koyokh Duo: Susi Evans (Clarinet) & Matt Bacon (Guitar)
She’Koyokh, are the UK’s most well-known Klezmer Band. An award-winning klezmer and Balkan music ensemble that are internationally recognised as leading experts in Eastern European Jewish, Balkan, Turkish and Gypsy music. The group were founded in 2001 after receipt of the JMI’s Millenium award grant and since then have become leading exponents of both Klezmer and the European co-territorial context of Ashkenazi Jewish Music.

HMD 2025: For a better future
This Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi concentration camp complex, and the 30th anniversary of the genocide in Bosnia.
80 years on from the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, antisemitism (anti-Jewish hatred) has increased significantly in the UK and globally following the 7 October attacks in Israel by Hamas and the subsequent war in Gaza. Extremists are exploiting the situation to stir up anti-Muslim hatred in the UK. Many UK communities are feeling vulnerable, with hostility and suspicion of others rising. We hope that HMD 2025 can be an opportunity for people to come together, learn both from and about the past, and take actions to make a better future for all.
