CHAIA – LIMMUD 2025

JMI is thrilled to announce our first collaboration with electronic composer Chaia, who will represent JMI at Limmud 2025. Chaia works at the intersection of Yiddish culture and electronic club music, weaving archival Yiddish samples into techno and ambient frameworks to create hybrid folk-electronic compositions. Her live performances combine accordion, vocals, and samples, inviting audiences into a space of ritual, memory, and intergenerational dialogue.

At Limmud, Chaia will showcase her groundbreaking work and engage with JMI’s own archive, exploring how ancestral sound resonates within global and liberatory rave culture. This collaboration marks the beginning of an exciting partnership.

Workshop details:

Saturday 27 December, 4.35pm – The art of unaccompanied Yiddish folksong

Learn how to imitate the tone and inflection of unaccompanied Yiddish folksong in this deep dive workshop.

Sunday 28 December, 10.40pm – Kleztronica: beatmaking as a form of Yiddish cultural practice

Explore Kleztronica with Chaia as she connects Yiddish samples, techno grooves, and cultural celebration – tracing their history and guiding you to create your own beats.

Monday 29 December, 4.00pm – Revolutionary Yiddish singalong

Join Chaia for a singalong and historical deep dive into five radical early-20th-century Yiddish songs.

Tuesday 30 December, 5.20pm – Revolutionary Yiddish singalong

Chaia weaves century-old Yiddish wax-cylinder recordings with delicate electronics, inviting listeners to drift into a mystical soundscape of ancestral memory and folklore.
