Music Selector, Archivist & Collector Yuval Wajima, known as Wa Jima Tapes, is a Tel Aviv-based music selector, archivist, and collector whose work bridges forgotten soundscapes and contemporary club culture.
His journey began in Israel’s markets – Wadi Nisnas, Ramla-Lod, Beersheba – where he unearthed rare cassettes and records buried beneath the mainstream. From Arab-Jewish melodies and Palestinian women’s songs to shepherd flutes and Middle Eastern disco-funk, Wajima’s archive is a living testament to the region’s rich sonic heritage.
Driven by a deep commitment to cultural preservation, his search has expanded globally, tracing musical threads from Southwest Asia and North Africa (SWANA) to India and Europe. As part of JMI’s wider archiving project, Yuval has contributed his expertise to the assessment of JMI’s vinyl and shellac collections. Through his sets and archival work, Wa Jima Tapes reanimates lost frequencies, offering audiences a vibrant, borderless listening experience.
